beginning to be untitled

by Beth K Hannah

melding your wings out of silver
You wait for each shard of diamond
To flutter out of your eyes
And into your palms.

"Mirror mirror...
You are beautiful
Even when the sun has set
And the wind is no longer in your hair"

When you repeat this to me over and over
I cannot still grasp the very fluctuation
Of the tangled heart you create.

I feel electrified
Poised on a soapbox
Waiting and waiting
All these rap songs are dedications to me
Whilst country songs are written about me
I feel sorrow for breaking your heart
With my alley cat ways
And bombarding you with
A trolley cart of insults and vague desires.
I still can't shatter the mirror in your eyes.

I ran away with another shining prince
Leaving you with a maimed horse
I dead bolted my eyes
So i couldn't see the pain I caused.

You stayed
Even after I openly displayed my liasons
And stopped touching you
You brought me chocolate cookies
And lemonade
I threw them back, called your bluff
Broke cds and records
And still you stayed.

I apoligize for all I did
And all I can't do to make it right.

Author's Note: I was reading stargirl by Jerry Spinelli again. This is very rough, but it is how it came out. "We are for a brief few moments, anything and everything we could be. And then we open our eyes and the day is before us, and we become ourselves." ~spinelli

Intense emotions captured skillfully in verse, the regret and devotion--or the possibility of obsession--gives a lot to think about. Very nifty.

I gotta go with Don on this one. It is lovely in it's emotions my dear.
