In the City

by Brian Francis

Big new buildings made of glass
Are rising ever higher
The glaring sun reflected down
into the concrete mire
Where you can sit sipping coffee
Watching zombies as they're walking
Or merely listen to the sound
Of a million people talking

Read the signs they are all around
Exclaiming innovations
Urging us to come on in
With clever invitations
You can get a better deal
A few steps down the street
While buying things you do not want
At a price that can't be beat

They say that city life is fast
To make you feel substantial
As if we're all in some big race
It makes it all seem existential
Let's not forget the holy men
Exclaiming revelation
They speak to God who tells them all
About the tribulation

And then as if that weren't enough
They tell you that you're falling
How if you give them your cold cash
You'll feel the Lord's consoling
It seems that we are all the fools
To lend an eye or ear
Although, we've always turned to them
The salesman and the seer

You've got some very complex rhyming in here, a difficult thing to do without sacrificing meaning or imagery. Excellent job!
