Your Beautiful Repeat

by Karen Michelle

You call it life and beauty
and
               up
            g
          n
        i
      w
    o
  r
g

I only see it as pushing
the world away in shot glasses
and endless forgettable nights
between a stranger's sheets.

To a certain point,
we are the
same hungry creature -
stretching out our souls
into the vast expanse of
anti-paradise
touching, tasting

But today,
I saw your heart
b
r-
eak...

I watched it
f
 l
  o
   w out
of your sinful mouth,
slithering through
deceitful lips
and falling silently
onto the rain soaked sidewalk -

A mute cacophony of dreams,
shattering across
the streets you wander
on a saturday night,
selling yourself for
the
next
salvation
