Work in Progress

by Karen Michelle

And I call this song
writing at midnight.
Watch me, as I compose myself...

We are nothing
We are nothing if not living
We are nothing, if not living proof
That it all looks brighter
under cover of darkness.

Nights like these,
where day has dragged on
for longer than it should,
I want to fold back into self
and deconstruct this isolation.

I settle, three times over,
into inspiration..searching
searching for you in loneliness.
And once again, we take comfort
in the insignificance of encounter
and the sustenance of memory.

Another night and promise of morning -
I'm learning to justify
this lack of direction
in increments and twilight instalments

I love "watch me, as I compose myself" It puts writing in an entirely different light, as if creating ourselves is what happens when we write.
