Hooray for Dollywood

by Karen Michelle

not content to ride
the sombre waves
of hidden brilliance
he launches himself
off of the crest
into the salty whirlpool
gurgling down into
the abyss below
he knows with time
it will lift him up again
that you have to fall
to rise up
hit rock bottom
to climb everest
he's doing more for the world
than he knows
casting off enough
radiance to fuel my
nuclear resistance
when non-conformism has
become a fashion accessory
he wears his life
like tom ford tailored gucci
back to black and basics
and he may not be
the flavour of the month
this complex
rehab hopping
stringing his life together again
talent in his veins
magnetically fragile man
but he's only human
and his gift is that he knows it
he's sparking more addictions
and obsessions per capita
than the discovery of mdma
he's a liability
but this cradle-me-in-your-arms
-and-take-away-my-pain look
is so enticing
it's like a freight train
to the goddamn middle of nowhere
he's coming on so strong
with everything he's got
never hiding anything
the fear and failure are
thick enough
dark enough
to blanket the world
in vesuvius' volcanic ash
((bury me in the streets of pompeii))
and i should be running
from what i know will kill me
but it's so fucking
intoxicating...
