Seasonal Regret

by Karen Michelle

Undiscovered corners of
this afternoon are
the greatest gift of time -
once written off
and filed away
for lectures and lessons.

Wandering new streets,
at the back end of town,
I discover old memories
in discarded paper trails
and low flying clouds.

I lunched at wooden tables
with benches far too high,
in front of hostels, today,
my legs swinging
against the wintery air.

And I want to wallow
in winter sunshine
for the remainder
of my days
if only to remember
with constant intensity
the beauty of summer...
