Burning Hearts and Eyes

by Christopher Shin

As I stare down the empty
streets before me with my
empty sullen eyes.
I begin to ponder over
the words and hurts that
we traded amongst each other.

You were like an angel to
me when I was but a confused darkling.
But in the end we tore away
our friendship like two fiends.
Every moment I try to forget,
but now I realize that nobody
could possible replace you.

There will be no more velvet
nights of laughter and joy.
No more emerald stars as
I stare into the green
pastures of your eyes.

No more cherry red locks
of hair tossed at my face.
No more snow or milk cladded
skin to offer a caring hand.
Only I have is the empty dark
abyss at the center of my chest.

And yet in this hole of mine burns
the fire of my own misery.
With burning eyes I stare into
the world with empty hopes about love.
And so my chest and my eyes burn for
a past long ago.

Author's Note: This one is dedicated to a friend that I left behind in my own arrogant and self destructive nature when I was young.
