Drowning in this Sea

by Thomas K. Hunt

I'm drowning in the sea complacency
A giant whirlpool spinning around
I see no rescue in sight
My own anchor holds me down

Lost within my panic
I can't remember how to swim
Uncontrolled and surely manic
Fearful of every spin

Lost from what I used to be
Drifting further with the tide
Running out of things to hold
With each breath I subside

Wishing I could turn around
Head back to where I've been
With each stroke I'm losing ground
I further my descend

The best years have come and gone
It seems this way to me
As I live alone and withdrawn
Drowning in this sea

The symbolism of drowning is really effective for conveying that sense of being swept away from safety. Good meter and flow, too. Nice work. :)

I like this. It flows well and has depth. Nice work. --bf

My worst fear - drowing. Haunting poem, brilliant flow. xx
