My Angels

by Holly H Dunne

Once my way was bleak, lonely, full of danger
When everything was dark and everyone a stranger
My emotions bled me dry and i was an empty vessel
My only daily chore was a suicide wrestle
Everytime I tried to touch my fingers were burned
So I left the smoking ashes with my lesson learned
One day as I battled through my constant storm
The heavens opened and three angels were born
With halos of stars and pink butterfly wings
And arms laden with gifts of new beginnings
They warmed my soul and rocked me to sleep
They gave my heart love it would always keep
And many more angels appeared dressed in white
And although some remained, most took flight
The remaining angels eveloped me where I lay
And by the light of their halos, I could find my way
But the brightest lights of all were from those first three
The ones I love the most - Angie, Niamh and Kirsty.
