::cerulean seahorse::

by Bethany Lee

The last few moments of her dreaming, she was floating on a body of freshwater, suddenly sinking underneath. Though it did not seem to matter, for her heart and lungs did not move, drifting in that dreamscape where her body was obsolete. There was a vague shadow over everything. She tried to define all that she was seeing, but this place seemed so hollow. She decided to just close her eyes and relax in the current. She was done with struggling and trying to give explanation to all that occurs under the sun and moon and stars. She thought the dream to be over when she felt a light tap on the end of her nose. Opening her eyes, there was a cerulean seahorse an inch away from her face. She had to cross her eyes to see it fully. As quick as it came, it disappeared into a patch of human-tall seaweed. In the center of the seaweed, where it seemed the seahorse swam, there was a tall silverblue iridescence.

She blinked, and the sky spread out in midnight before her. The moon smiled as she smiled back. But a frown arrived as it was realized that she had never left the desert, and her companion with the liquid petals was shriveled and unidentifiable as once being a gorgeous paragon. The memory it embedded in her mind was too much of a loss. She was starting to fold her arms across her knees and cry much needed tears when she saw a forest~green~flame, tinged plum~purple. The illuminating shock of it brought a tear down her cheek, but she was smiling once again.
