Overture at 3:00 by Trisha De GraciaSilent, dark and hush
the people
tense
awaiting the rise of red curtain
were all too entranced by the overture-
not me
not you
not when in one fell swoop
upon all of my girlishness
you crashed down deftly
wrapped me in your arms
and although this time
just as pleasant as each other
this time
softly
this time in a tender
hold-me-close
I'd-never-dream-of-letting-go
a delicate and splendid
cheek to cheek embrace,
the smell of skin,
the sound of breath and broadway,
feel of sweet secrecy and closeness
Improv
not quite sure of the other one's line
or one's own...
yet in the suspense and quiet still
looking into another's eyes
through this particular darkness
a single
stolen kiss
for you and me.

Posted by Barbara Griffith on 07/31/03 at 05:49 PM I love this poem, because even without reading to the kiss, you know it's coming. Looming in the murky back-stage-ness of the poem. Well written! |
