Addiction by Brian Francis
It is like falling in love
The passion so intense
that you give it your all
Your focus: the attraction
The yearning from within
That needful fulfillment
Seemingly within grasp
Yet never truly realized
It is like being hungry
That emptiness gnaws
Pervades every pour
Drives your ambition
Pushes you to cross lines
Lines ever bolder,
Lines of shame, and guilt,
of torment, and dwindling self
It is like being found when lost
It comes upon you like a rapture
Easing your worries, your burden
Helping to find -all- from within
Satisfying, like the eruption of love
Like a mistress of the night
Left alone wanting, needing, more
When the sun and morning arrive
It is like so many things but it is not
Offering so much yet only delivering
illusion, that dissipates unnoticed
for moments the illusion of peace
But it is not, it is death unmitigated
It is self-annihilation unnoticed
The scythe in slow motion
Invited with open veins
