hourglass

by Jessica Yen

after ten years, this is what you give me?
a broken mirror and a rusted hourglass?
is this what our love amounts to?

no, but darling, do you think that everything lasts forever?
we have to change sometimes.
don't cry.

how can you tell me not to cry?
are not these tears the ones you created?
do not these wounds tear from your knife?

come on, with time things will heal.
what can i say, i found someone different.
not better, just different.

how can she not be better if she won your heart and not i?

you will find someone else with time.
come on, don't cry.

don't you touch me!
don't wipe away my tears.
i don't want your pity hugs.
you lied to me when you said that we'd forever be together,
lied when you said i could trust you and i poured out my soul,
lied when you gave me that "eternal" tainted rose,
lied when we looked into the mirror
and you said that we were the same--one heart,
lied.
no simple hourglass will turn back these sands of time.
just please, leave.

i can't stand the sight of you anymore.
