Baggy Manchester

by Sam Roberts

Roses stare back at them from the miner strike scene
Glossy and glam with a chip on their shoulders
1986, chips and beans,
Slogans with political statements and tight white jeans

A ritual of slagheaps where the world went by
Atmosphere frosty and A glass street of beer
Shouting violently, hitting the TV
Reading Orwell, their isolating dream

And they were happy with each other
Their books and BIG FLAME
NME was read, to read about fame
So they sent their ranting letters to “show from where they came”

And then spat on the Happy Mondays

Author's Note: I don't think you American guys will understand this one, nevermind. It's about The Manics which is all you need to know. It's a very obvious poem so I'll take my time with the next one enjoy anyway I know at least one manics fan on pathetic so she'll enjoy it at least.
