"Thanks for the Memory"(5.29.1903-7.27.2003)"

by Cathlyn Cartier

For more than 70 years you brought laughter to a nation,
Today a nation silently mourns your passing.

You life extended past the century mark...
The wisdom and knowledge of life and people you had acquired,
That knowledge that you used to poke fun at us (when you weren’t poking fun at yourself);
to enable us to quit taking ourselves quite so seriously.

You embodied the values of family, faith and service toward your fellow man.
You gave countless hours, days, and months that added up to years,
dedicated to the soldiers, leaders and the citizens of a country that had become yours, not by
birthright,
but by the circumstances of your early childhood.

How many generations have been affected personally by you?
How many more will enjoy the wit, humor and laughter;
the infamous one-line come backs that were so uniquely you, delivered with a golf-club by your side?

Today a nation silenty mourns your passing,
and repeats in unison ~ “Thanks for the Memory”.

Author's Note: My feeble attempt to express how much Bob Hope was appreciated and admired by so many generations of Americans, and others world-wide. May he live on in our hearts and memories, for generations to come, in perpetuity.

Thank you for paying tribute for us Cathlyn! Bob Hope is a national icon, a national institution as well. It is difficult to think his smile will grace no more new Bob Hope TV specials.

You've certainly managed to capture so much in this fine tribute to the man and the legacy he leaves behind. Well done!
