the poem by Bet Yeldem"Give us a poem!"
Your request was not honored.
How could you know what you were asking?
You, who roll poetry off your tongue
for the benefit of girls you can't respect
but you like nonetheless because they give in
before you are through with them
all the while longing for one who says "no."
"Give us a poem!"
Haven't you learned a thing about me?
Can't you see the curves of my body
in every curve of the letters I write?
My hopeless romantic delusions are not shared
easily and I do not spit elegance and charm.
Don't you know that I can't give you a poem
without offering you my heart? 07/23/2003 Posted on 07/24/2003 Copyright © 2024 Bet Yeldem
