Pink

by Trisha De Gracia

I fell across the darkest of skies
and maddeningly
everything was changing colour
ashamedtoseemyface
Into the rabbit hole
downward
the World was swishing up
And I could only feebly Reach
a hand to hold the air that was thin between strange fingertips
Why should darkness be so black to every one?
Oh no
my darkness was Pink
Pastel through the day
and thunderous murderous Mauve
through sickly nights laid ridden with reflective glass
Pink to laugh hysterically
Pink to push it's smile on me
Pink to yell out
"Happiness is all around!
And somehow YOU'VE managed to push it down!"
like a pink hatter in a black and white world
A happy joyous pink
to wretch my flesh from bone
and paint the roses with
-- And the sky was ever-darkening.
I walked nightly across it
hands down and feet to the clouds
until the blush fell to my face
and I was pink again
and there it was
upside down
the sun was falling off the horizon
the sky, rose--
with a scream my face
in the mirror
pink
