from one soul to another (our spot in the sun)

by Rachelle Howe

dear sister:

it's been darker since you left.
the clouds don't smile as much anymore.
i've noticed that even the rain seems
a little bit colder these days.
the thunder crashes, and in it,
i can still hear your voice.
that quiet, gentle tone that boasts of
reasons why god hates us.

you laugh.
i laugh.
the joyous feelings of two souls
who are so lost in each other that
the lunacy seems a limb.

i like it, i don't know if
i ever said that.

you're such a presence for me...
that undeniable, yet untaintable relic that
we both have come to recognize as love.
i relish that, in you.
i cherish that, in us.

and all these things have come to a head,
and we both have been broken in our pasts, and in
times to come, but either way, when i sit here,
bathing in the sun that has blessed me with its face,
i smile as i glance down to a sign in your spot,
waiting patiently and saying only:
"reserved."

Intimate - nothing else needs to be said (but I couldn't stop myself saying that)
