"Fresca...it means 'cool' in Spanish,
and if I drink it,
then I am, too..."
I think to myself,
alone,
cross-legged on the bed,
like every day
and night
for the past two months-
not because I don't have
anything else to do,
but because the last power outage
fried my hunk-of-crap
old computer,
and suddenly the desk,
the work space,
the mouse pad
all became irrelevant.
So now it's time for this bedroom
to live up to its name,
for this diaper-bag mattress
of a bed
to produce, to spew forth
one last productive work cycle
before being stripped bare.
But what rest is sleep
when you've spent all day
and all night in the bed
of beef jerky,
of soda pop,
of potato chips,
of magazines
and crumbs of creativity?
Fresca...it means 'cool' in Spanish.

I wonder if this
is what they had in mind.
