Together We'll Dance

by Thomas K. Hunt

Tie downs and commitments
The need for the legal tender
Keep holding me back
They make me surrender

I hear the highway calling
But the moss has grown
It's as thick as molasses
On this rolling stone

It's a battle within me
I fight day after day
It's got a hold on me
I just can't get away

I think to myself time's running out
Life doesn't last very long
Still my luggage collects dust on the shelf
I feel I should be long gone

I know a new face is waiting
With stars in her eyes
Anticipating
Her lifelong surprise

Though we're miles apart
And worlds away
She is deep in my heart
And my thoughts everyday

Still these forces that hold me
Are just circumstance
I know soon I will hold her
And together we'll dance

Author's Note: This is the anticipation of meeting the daughter I never knew I had after 23 years
