Little Girls by Shayla R CakesPicking dandelions and stringing them together Making a lovely ensemble of a crown, a bracelet and a necklace Whilst wondering why the bees were chasing them.
Tying a bow in their hair Getting lipstick all over their face and Painting their fingernails for the first time.
Pink frilly dresses White tights and shiny black Mary Janes With an entire collection of P.J. Sparkle dolls and coordinating accessories.
"Eww, boy germs!" Cooties and Tea Parties New Kids on the Block
These are the things I never did.
I was too busy being a little boy -- Collecting baseball cards, Pogs, toads and scraped knees.
I had more bruises than any kid on the block I rode my bike harder, And fished worse than any of the other boys on the block. (Perhaps it was because I wasn't a boy.)
Cutting worms in half after a rainstorm I was told that they'd grow back, They at least survived the ordeal.
Watching baseball and waiting for thunderstorms Listening to Metallica
Though when no one was looking, I'd creep to my back yard With my headphones, my blankie and my Charlotte's Web book I'd read whilst listening to Ordinary World by Duran Duran.
I owned a pair of Kulots And green Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles rollerskates. I gave them purple laces to girl them up a bit.
Beverly Hills 90210, Flannel shirts Skateboards and Jonathan Taylor Thomas posters Next to my heavy metal posters.
I lit a fly on fire once, to see what happened. I cried when JTT's character almost died on Home Improvement.
I don't know whether I spent my growing up as a little girl or a little boy. 07/12/2003 Author's Note: Interestingly enough, right after I wrote the part about Duran Duran, it came on the radio.
Strange.
