Uranium and Uranus

by D. Xavier Bari

I am that American fire
shining bright in the eyes
under patriot skies.

When the cries ring out—
who shall sacrifice,
who shall die?

Meet their destiny
draped in red and white,
with a touch of blue,
leaving life and home
and a child or two.
Why?

When the gauntlet's thrown
and the stakes are high,
who shall the monuments diefy?
As we throw our youth
—and our future—
away over lies?

Lies.
Damned lies.
And "intelligence".

Take your rods and shove them.

jadi said: Enriched poetry, Dante. Nice work. Your passion paints a surreal picture with the broad stroke from a metaphoric brush. I am reminded, however, there can be no liar without a believer. Peace...

Irradiated suppositories? Interesting ending (no pun intended.) All kidding aside, very political and needed view on the world stage. Great verse.
