summer thunderstorm by Jessica Yena typical thunderstorm.
the awkward phonecall.
unsettling thunder and lightening.
disturbing news of a terminally ill friend.
pitter-patter on my window;
thump-thump of my beating heart.
a shudder
a rolling earthquake
shatter. shatter. shatter.
the clouds roar
of an inevitable truth-
cancer.
first heavy rain
then a light shower
until it is just
a distant cry in the dark.
excerpts of her conversation:
"...in new york"
"fading fast"
"barely speak"
a muffled cry.
and softer and softer
it falls.
silence.
a soft prayer
intermittent with tears
"give her hope, Lord"
rain. 07/01/2003 Author's Note: based on truth.
