figuring out
what's a little complicated
and what's not
just a little stretch of the mind
when it comes to macaroni and cheese
or the leftovers in the refrigerator

kids screaming
hungry
fighting
who hit the cat
and who spilled the juice
on the floor that i stick to

just a little complicated
covered by the facts that no sleep
exhaustion
ready to fall down and embrace the
lovely carpet
just installed of course

vacuuming
mopping
covered in dust
and bleach water
including the soapy dishwater
that has a constant passport
in the sink

just a little complicated
school lunches need paid for
summer coming soon
activities to plan
or yes
hair will fall out again and go gray
thank God for hair dye

not so much complicated
just a little hectic
daily chores for the daily wife
daily chores for the daily mom
or mommy when one wakes in the middle
of the night screaming about monsters
or the bogeyman

not so complicated
getting a laugh from a cry
a hug for no reason
or the "I love you" just because

not so complicated
waking up to little feet
kicking you in the chin
because instead of waking you they
crawl into the same bed

not so complicated
just a little wonderful pleasure
watching them grow up
riding a bike for the first time
screaming because they can

not so complicated
having them by your bedside
when you're just a little sick
holding your hair back instead of
the reverse when they are sick

not complicated at all
just so much joy
