Confidence in a Bottle

by Beth K Hannah

She's quite lovely
Even as she's pushing away
Her hair hiding her face
Making excuses
For every fault she never had

She doesn't understand
Why she's forced to be alone
Why love slips from her fingertips
When she is finally happy,
Why she's never even received
A second glance.

All she wants is a day or two
When someone tells her she is pretty
That she knocks them dead
That she measures up to their standards
She wants to hear that she could
Make the sun melt
That she would never have to try
To be amazing
That it's all worth it.

Even today she feels
Her wrists being split
That she'll never find a person
Who could understand every ebb
Of her thoughts
That she'll never turn a head
Or ever be beautiful

She wants confidence
She wants to find it in a bottle
On the top shelf
She wants her footsteps to ring
With this feeling
That even the wind can't compare

i really love this ... when i clicked on the title, i thought that it was going to be about someone who gains confidence through alcohol ... i was surprised!

Confidence is a well never depleted residing inside ur mind and it depends on how much u dig into it and fill ur mind with it's water from within.Anyways a lovely thought provoking write,Beth.

I was expecting alcohol too, so the title makes for a nice lil twist to the story. Exceptionally done and very much enjoyed.
