Floodwork

by Karl Waldbauer

You
with your glistening words
sweet and mellow
as honey
oozed
into my life
like
a flood
slowly rising
swamping a house
on
the river bank.

I
sandbagged
built a levee
to no avail
as
your presence
drowned
my resistance
overwhelming
my
senses.

Together
we
are fire
and earth
never one
but
two forces
that can level
any obstacle
life
may put
in
our path.

I love the imagry of fire and earth as living beings. Perhaps because they are alive. Beautiful poetry indeed.

I love the imagery and the way in which the line breaks framed the images of the poem.

I guess a flood would ooze if the levee were a strong one! Bold, striking analogy carried throughout with a very happy ending! :) Congratulations on POTD.
