Lead Me to the Promised Land

by Thomas K. Hunt

Another night has come and gone
With change never coming
Here I sit in another dawn
To hear the morning humming

Repetition in the morning air
Seems at times too much to bear
Waiting patiently for a change to come
Hoping to find it in the new days sun

Beams of blue that steal the night
A gradual flow of sunrise light
Fill the cracks through my blinds
They pierce my walls every time

Shattered hours that are my life
Have filled my days with only strife
They have formed all my years
They shroud each dawn with heavy fears

Yet in the darkest hour
Just before the dawn
I sit alone with my doubts
Hoping for a change to spawn

Someone take my hand
Help me in my search today
Lead me to the promised land
Someone show me the way

Point me in the right direction
Open a door for me
Show me another reflection
Let this new light set me free

kinda like a prayer...I like the positive vibe springing from a desperate feeling. Nice read!!

a good twist on a common rhyme and meter, i like the positive air of it.

Hi Thomas, It's lovely. It is kinda like a prayer. Just lovely.

It IS a prayer... and I hope, for the soul of this poem, an illumination.
