Sleep within a silent eye,
A desire unawakened;
The sensual self
Is yet denied--
And bound with hesitation.
Blood within a trusty vein,
A courier unshaken;
A vessel changed
Its very flesh--
A shocking manifestation!
Love within a timid tongue,
A flavor never tasted;
Slipped past her throat
And sank straight down--
So heavy is elation!
Song within a moonlit touch,
A fever strong but latent;
But tender hopes
May yet ignite--
In wild new salvation!
