Sunday Obligation

by Richard Vince

Perhaps Saturdays aren't so bad
After all; or perhaps I just
Somehow avoided the bits
That usually cement them in my mind
As little splinters of Hell on Earth.

Today has felt different though...
Like it has changed shape
To accommodate me...
And I have noticed things that
Usually pass me by, like
Catholic ladies going to
Saturday evening mass, and
Advertisements for vertical sunbeds,
And the way the world looks
Somehow exactly as it does
Any other day of the week.

Maybe I am just mellowing a bit,
Feeling more at ease with the
World and my place in it,
And worrying a lot less about
Things that I now see are
Not important really.

I can just sit here on this bus
And enjoy a pleasant June sky
With a hint of bronzing, and
Not worry about next week,
Or next month, or next year.

Everything will be as it should be,
And everything is woven
From the same thread, and
Everything is beautiful.
