Ken's Lament (A Dramatic Monologue)

by Max Bouillet

Damn you! I deserve a chance to be heard.
Do you think it's easy to be like this?
Constantly smiling even though I know --and.
have always known, how this must end.
Yes, I tried keeping it from you.
But in the end, at the moment of truth,
I knew you would find out.
I am not a fool! I knew it was inevitable.
But I also knew I had
to play the game as long as I could.
I had to value the time you would spend with me
for I knew it would end soon.
You always said I was playing hard to get.
Well I was. For I knew I was
Impossible to get.
My don't we look smug sitting there so
indifferent to my feelings.
Don't flip your hair behind your head and giggle at me. I hurt!
I hurt a lot and do you know why I hurt?
Because I think you knew.
Don't look shocked. It's true isn't it!
You lead me on just to watch me crumble.
You were waiting for this moment
with as much enthusiasm as I was with disdain.
You don't have to answer. I see it in your face.
I see it just as clearly now,
as I did when I came out of the water
after the waves had washed my trunks away.
Well damn it Barbie, now you know...
I have no penis.
