goodnight, goodnight

by Mary Ellen Smith

time to kiss the day goodnight,
pray that God keeps all things right.

time to close those sleepy eyes,
shoosh, there now, no more cries.

time to sweep away the day,
dream of games that children play.

time to snuggle in and then,
another day to rise again.

goodnight, goodnight
I'll be right here.
goodnight, goodnight
I love you dear.
goodnight, goodnight
come the day,
you and I again will play.

so leave a little smile with me,
I'll give it back, you will see.

I'll keep it here close to my heart
the place where all good smiles start.

goodnight.

A sweet and tender poetic lullaby. This could become a Nursery Rhyme classic.

Beautiful poetry. A wonderful lullabythat comes from and holds the heart. An enjoyable thing to read on a day such as this. Thank you for sharing. Children are the greatest gift of all.
