Sunset Eyes by Max BouilletWhen the day fades and loneliness licks
the grit of the grind
and loosens the caked reality
of mascara and eye shadow...
a sigh
a cigarette
and the realization that one more
day has passed, and the
eye shadow seeps deeper
into the sockets
and
sunsets seem
like bloodshot eyes,
dull and dumb,
staring at pretty flesh
--from a bloated body. 06/04/2003 Posted on 06/05/2003 Copyright © 2026 Max Bouillet

| Posted by Kate Demeree on 06/07/03 at 12:09 AM Oh, how you capture some nights vividly here. Made my eyes ache, and I longed for just a moment, a smile, an embrace, to remove the taste of ash from my mouth. WOW... lol needless to say the poem touched me, and expressed better than I could the end of a very trying and tireing day. |

I enjoyed the poem, the self-deprecation, and the prospect of this library being open after sundown :>) |
