Teach Me

by Kate Demeree

Teach Me To...

“Teach me to dance,” she said
As she laid her hand on his heart
“But I don’t dance,” his soft reply
“I told you at the start”
Their words
Hang in the air as he holds her
Locked in an embrace
Blue on blue
Face to face
Soft notes from the radio
 Old and slow drifting
Sweet to the ears
His head steadily descending
Her lips gone dry
She wets them with
The tip of her tongue
Leaving them moist
And parted
Breathing in slow
Short breaths
The warmth from his hands
Radiating through her body
As their lips meet
And the music moves them
Lazily back and forth
Undulations of the hips
 Shuffling of the feet
Sound, motion, and emotion
Echoing the beat
“Teach me to…. Dance”
