business like usual

by Scott Cadence

edges of her summer dress
cause fleeting shadows across the linoleum
as closing rays of the sun
cast through the doorway
and finally dispense -
shut out all reason to stay
as she flys
over the sea

She’s leaving -
her wings on the heels of
the desert sun
Heating even into the night
Where it can be felt
in the valley’s sands
Kicking about the streets

I Re-met myself today
In the review mirror -
felt like letting Caesar
loosen my tie –
unravel the kingdom
with all the thoughts
Buzzing like neon
against the glass
many colours turning
in the glitz
of Vegas
by the smokestack boardwalk
it truly can be

I understand now
why people come here

The art of it
Running and standing still

Between the various people,
loosing themselves somewhere among it –
perhaps a few streets behind
a few hours unsaid
two drinks that unwind
the simple things to be missed…

Picturing your eyes
waking from dreams
made by makebelievelips
There mnemonic rhythm -
business like usual
like the never stopping motion
of traffic on the strip
many want to call home
