A girl came in today
that I used to go to high school with.
She's a senior this year,
graduating in a few days.
As she comes in to pay for gas,
the first thing she shows me
is a simple and elegant ring
on her ring finger.
An engagement ring.
She's engaged,
to the guy sitting out in the truck,
who's leaving in two days
to join the Navy.
I shake my head
and say that's crazy.
I try to say congratulations,
but end up just wishing her luck instead.
