A. Conversations With God

by Christel Crews

I sat at the coffee house, patiently awaiting his arrival
I had practiced what I would say multiple times in my head
He entered and ordered his cup of coffee and
with an amazing grace, sat down across from me.

"Its time the two of us had a heart to heart.
I know you prefer honesty over anything so I will be sure to be real and upfront
What is going on? I am so fed up with you right now!
I never asked for it to be easy
But do you feel it neccessary to drag me through every muddy path along this road?
My hands are tied. There is nothing to do but continue.
There is no turning back (besides, I'd be a fool to walk back through the junk to get out)

I gave you everything and trustingly I jumped in, never realizing what came with it all
I wish you could just make up your mind and let your yes be yes, and your no be no
What's up with all the gray, dude?
I can't stand it anymore!
Let's stick with the black and white, yes and no
You've got to move!
You've got to do something in my life.
Can you open a door and leave it open?
Or, better yet, don't open it until I need it.
I'm sick of you dangling things before me and as I reach for them, you snatch them up
Or, showing me something and then saying, with that Fatherly smile on your face,
'Now, wait for it...its yours eventually'.

Okay, let me stop here and restate that I love you with all my heart
And I will be forever grateful for rescuing me from me, I am nothing without you
But this day to day crap is what is eating away at my simple mindedness
And I agree with my bro Dave, who so eloquently stated
"I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living".
My question is when? when? Is there something I'm not doing or learning or saying?
I am frustrated, annoyed, and a wee bit bitter right now
and I needed to get this off my chest."

As I sat there, hoping I hadn't said too much, he smiled
and set down his steaming cup of coffee and said,
"I Know".

Hi Christel, I just read your poem. Yes I sure did. Glad to see you do believe in the Lord. Yes, we do get tested at times in our life. To see if we really do believe and have faith. We tend to grow more, and learn more, even with the bad, as well as the good happening to us. Please don't give up on your faith. I haven't. Some have, as well alot doesn't know or what to even know the Lord. Let alone hear his name. It's really sad. I'll put you on my prayer list. Peace & Joy, Jean.

I read this with all the seriousness evoked by the subject matter and had to just smile and chuckle to myself at the simple ending. An excellent look at the struggles we have with life and trying to understand our place and relationship to God. A great read!

I haven't read this poem before, but the words sound so familiar, they could have been mine. I love this!

This is a wonderful piece, be it a story, a poem or a prayer. I think we all talk to G-d wherever we are. The image of talking with G-d in a Coffee house is very creative. I really liked this. It was wonderfully written by you; inspired by G-d!
