Mom And Dad

by Thomas K. Hunt

I have no way to thank you
Except to show you how I live
You can sleep in peace at night
Knowing you gave all you could give
I may have been rebellious
I may not have shown the respect
But you taught me right from wrong
And now I've had years to reflect
I can't say I would have been different
If I had it all to do again
It's still me that I represent
After all, I am what I am
I am sorry for your anguish
Back then, it was all about me
Hardly a thought about others
Just me wanting to be free
But through it all, I am descent
I never brought you any shame
Now I am someone to be respected
For that, you are to blame
