There'll Come a Time

by Jane E Pearce

There'll come a time,
when only memories suffice,
when fires of summer
are smothered
under age's full surplice.

There'll come a time,
to look back on golden hours,
when passions propelled the days,
and cheeks flushed full bloom
with youth's invincible powers.

There'll come a time,
when compromise is made,
and the heart beats in contentment
with a love that deepened so,
beyond youth's lustful glade.

There'll come a time.

You say it so well. Only the mature years bring an understanding that can be gained no other way.
