Veiled (Sestina) by Amanda Conloguethe afternoon sky is hazy
a mysterious veil
wrapped around the sun
I pour over words in a diary
watching the rain
letters fall
In my dreams I fall
though the recollection is hazy
a fog rolling in after a rain
I keep my thoughts under veil
made permanent ink in a diary
I wait for the outing of the sun
but there is no sun
its warmth falls
with the moon's rise, my diary
blind in this hazy
light, the cloud's veil
I hold my breath as it begins to rain
the moon's reign
weakens with the rising sun
you slip off my veil
and I watch it fall
a swatch of hazy
color, lost in pages of my diary
your name whispers throughout my diary
a secret, soft as mists of rain
settles within grassy blades and hazy
rainbows glistening in the sun
you will never fall
protected within my veil
there is no veil
over my heart, an open diary
in dreams, you catch me before I fall
into puddles of bleak rain
together we gaze up at the sun
its brilliance makes the view hazy
I've dropped my diary in a pool of rain
as love veils me from the hot sun
the fall of my past words, hazy.
