Fingers crossed

by Amy Niggel

Holding my breath
so that life won't be let in to my lungs
closing my eyes
so it can't get in my head
hiding under my bed
so that the morning won't find me
and yet somehow
it always does
wishing on every star
that time would slow down
and that I could have just one more day
just one more hour
I'd take a minute
settle for a second
relish just one more moment
but separation is looming on the horizon
like a mountain waiting to be climbed
and I am running toward it
struggling to get all my gear on
boots tied
pack on
mind set
fingers crossed
ready as I'm ever gonna get.

well, that's got to be one of the best you've ever written that i've read. so maybe you should write more when you're half asleep and not feeling too good. seriously, it's fantastic.

Rushing toward the inevitable... beautifully written. Thanks for sharing.
