Tea Party (Sestina) by Amanda Conloguemy mouth is closed, keeping secrets
something sinister, caked
on my lips, a poison
bitter potion in my cup
I force a smile
take another drink
sipping my drink
I think of secrets
sorrow makes me smile
a rotten birthday cake
I reach for my cup
something sweet becomes poison
everything I touch becomes poison
my eyes drink
you in, I need no cup
I would tell you my secrets
share my spoiled cake
if only I could have a smile
when you smile
the pain of poison
dissapates, petit four cakes
I celebrate with a drink
forget all my secrets
tea pools in the saucer, spilt cup
my hands cup
my mouth, as if to protect my smile
I want to tell you my secrets
without fear of poison
I want to drink
you into me, my love for you is caked
on my soul, I will bake a cake
to celebrate our love, filling my cup
to overflowing, more than I could ever drink
a child again, joyous, I smile
antidote for poison
fear and love lost were my secrets
your love found my secrets
sorrow caked to my heart, a poison
your gift fills my cup, now I drink in smiles.
