Distance by Amanda Conloguea thousand miles away
you are sleeping
I can't comprehend
this distance,
I just know
its too far away
for me to touch you
to watch your chest rise
with each breath, or see
the way your lashes rest
on your cheeks in sleep
or the way your lips
part in a sigh as
you begin to dream
of traveling landscapes. 02/20/1998 Posted on 05/10/2003 Copyright © 2024 Amanda Conlogue

Posted by Meghan Helmich on 07/09/08 at 12:50 PM i feel a sense of disappointment because the poem *almost* comes full circle. you end it with the image of landscapes, but i really want you to end with the 'thousand miles away' image. i think they're so close that they almost touch.
i really liked this more than i thought i would! you brought new importance to the breathing/sleeping imagery of a lover. |
