your name

by Gabrielle L Gervais

.
They say your name
and I’m already pen scratching
the wantings
.
Need
along my forearms
Want between my toes
Pain fitting snugly,
circling neck— Fear.
.
Your gift-
crowns of shiny faith
clear
On every finger
.
Jewels…invisibly evident
and me-
Shaking the pen above my head
asking for ink enough
just for this line
.
To praise you more
.
My words, heavenly lifted by bricks
of mortality, lack in strength of wing
But I know you think of me
and give me laughter
longer lasting than
the blissful blaze of autumn trees
.
And me…
Scratching away
Praying for more— filled
like a salt licked margarita.
snow hungering lungs
.
Stretching my arms, tip toe
Practically flying, predictably falling
.
But always falling close enough
To my pen
Always falling just within reach
Of you.
To start writing again.
.
