A Dream of Years to Come

by Thomas K. Hunt

We grew upĀ on our river
Things there moved pretty slow
The bond we forged will live forever
That's a truth only you and I know

We started out on the same road
So innocent and young
Not thinking of tomorrow
Not knowing what will come

Then we came upon the crossroad
It seemed we hadn't gone that far
You turned right
I headed south
Now just look at where we are

We never lost touch
But it's never been enough
In the passing of each day
I hold you deep in my soul
I know you feel the same way

Telephone conversations
Some pictures in the mail
Two one night stands in twenty five years
Some other chance meetings that failed

The years roll by and we wonder why
Things got so out of control
Never getting what we really wanted
Will we get it before we're too old?

I have a dream of years to come
It's in the autumn of our lives
We'll meet each other by our river
Never to leave each others side

Yes I have a dream of years to come
We'll make up for lost time
I'll be forever by your side
You'll be forever by mine

Reassuring that someone could inspire this kind of tender devotion. There's hope for us all yet. thanks for the read
