a letter to the girl i met last night

by William P Strucke

to the girl i knew from a dream,
i miss you more than life itself and
i wish i could remember your face or
why you loved me so. life is not the
same nor is imagination without you.
i am nothing just as i was
nothing before, only last night
our brief time together -
my life is empty and alone. you
loved me. i loved you and now it is
all but a vague memory from a reality
increasingly far away.
if you are ever alone and dreaming and
happen to come across me once more,
please don't forget what we once had
and what may never again be other than
a sorrowful memory in my soul.
sleep well.
