BIRTH

by Manas Moksha

Subterranean
maternal
cavernous womb
full of life

In it undulates
a great sea of amnyote
turbulent but nourishing
Life feeds

From its temperate streams
and transient swells
its opulent pools and cavernous valleys

The water and the earth
Form an empty vessel
and fill the fertile crescent

A seed that perforates
breathes life into stagnation
movement into stillness

each stretch now
it grows tawt
the vital tether
to her soul

Life
feeds on life
soaking in dark dreams
nourishing from her laughter and her sin

Floating through an eternal state
of nothingness
of no feeling yet
to be defined

Sustained by a rhythm of warm fluid
the pulse of transition
absence of color
full of unknowing

A kernal of tomorrow
floats
with the tides
and grows roots

Movement upon streamers
to a life of being
without seeing
in the violence of the sea
is calm anticipation

It lives
and grows with much intention
branching
with an arbor beyond all convention

Long before the soiled, wet diaper
the morning fog forms above a glacial lake

Each drop of dew destined to reach
the far overhead morning skies
to huddle close and form
the dark and heavy evening clouds

The being
before its first tear
It is the spring rain from thunderous skys
the snow from powdered mountainsides
the melt and river runoff
the damp soil beneath her feet
the mud and dirt between her toes
the windblown sand from distant lands
the glacial spring water that penetrates her skin

It is the nectar from the fruited tree
the cultured milk from the farm fed cow
the mixed grain from the prolific field

A sudden dawn
and its time has come
moving to light as bright as the sun

Now drowning in red terror
suffereing a surfacing of sentient fears
a conscious independence
of impressions and cycles of her past

And in the that first tear
a self-defining moment bright
full of strange air
here's our future in the light
