A Taste of the Forbidden Fruit

by Trisha De Gracia

The Forbidden Fruit is still forbidden,
Just simply more morally attainable.
Now is the hard part.
I care for 2.
I'm only in love with what I can't yet have
due to love of a different kind,
compassion towards a broken heart.
We shattered their worlds
as peacefully as possible
and left fragmented pieces
strewn everywhere and in between.
But now... now...
Now I've had a taste
from lips I love.
Technically, we're innocent
but guilty of heinous faux pas' left and right.
I want more.
Plain and simple.
One bite wasn't enough.
Those lips, I find,
they taste like social doomsday,
taste like "falling out",
like falling in
they taste like an epiphany,
like "I don't care, just kiss me"
like a two-seat ticket to hell
and the return date set 6 weeks from where we are
and so
I think I'll just take
little bites
when no ones looking.

Forbidden Fruit
is in my hands
just not quite to my lips.
