I made a mistake
and allowed something to happen
that should never have had a chance,
and failed to deal with it
as well as I could have

And the weight of my guilt
descended and crushed my spirit
and I cried as I thought
of how you would hate me
when I told you,

For the pain it would cause you,
and for the knowledge that
I had ungratefully thrown away
possibly the best thing
that had ever happened to me.

But you forgave me,
simply, unbelievably,
and I love you even more for it.
