t-y-p-e-w-r-i-t-e-r

by Emily G Myers

this isa typewriter
it is not a computer
as you could tell
days were long, tedious
t e di ous
angering
cutting off letters
missing sonatas
did william spakespeare go through this?
I doubt it
and did e e cummings feel this strain?
surely I'm not alone
g-r-a-s-s-h-o-p-p-e-r
I guess you can't go home again
and I can't go home toaplacei'venevertravelled
to
so I guess the cliches were true
thought i hate to admit it
yeah, though
i think of my friend who likes e e
that friend has taught so much
he's scarlet
he's an avatar
he's a friend I've never seen
or a place I've never travelled
he's lived my life
stepped in and out of my shoes
loving someone who loves you
but never truly sees who you are
he's so strong
stronger than the Spring that opens the flowers that e e loves
the only one who can honestly say he's tried
he has
he's loved deeply
with his heart and soul so closely entwined
and taught me the beauty of holding on
and letting go
when you fianlly see you words on a typewriter
you pray a prayer of thanks that you were born in the information age
when you finally see your love wiht your eyes
you praise whatever powers that intervened
nothing is what it seems
even words
even love
even the one you gave your heart to
intheend
you see that you're better off with a typewriter
better to lose yourspelling
than to lose your deepest love
G-R-A-S-S-H-O-P-P-E-R
it's the only place I've never travelled

Author's Note: Written with Ryan from New York and ee cummings in mind. Pathetic doesn't do it justice as I lost some spacing and things and I'm just not HTML-savvy enough to fix it. Imagine really cute, creative spacing, ok?
