Breath & Britches

by Charlie Morgan

Breath & Britches

Between breaths and britches

what's to keep
next to us . . . .forever?
Neither fits, after a while.

Breath gives way to a needed new one,
(itself, kept but a moment).

Britches breach our breadth
and beg to be borrowed
by a baby brother.
Breath-taken-used-expelled
like a wayward carbonic wind
giving flora a needed dose of dioxide.

Each, ephemeral; each, extant.
